![]() ![]() But, if I could, my Nike Run Swift shoes would help me defy gravity and get the job done. Of course, I can’t walk on walls, and I can’t climb tall buildings. Literally, I feel like I could walk up the side of a wall, maybe like Spider-man or Batman do as they fight crime. ![]() If I were a competitive runner, these shoes and their space-age-feeling soles might give me an unfair advantage. The shoes securely gripped any surface I walked on. Lots of gripĪs I walked, I felt very sure-footed. Since then, Nike has greatly improved the design of their running shoes. That pair, as I remember them, was comparatively heavy and uncomfortable. The last time I bought a pair of actual running shoes was about ten years ago. They were definitely there, but it felt like I was holding a box filled with air. In fact, the first time I held the box in the store, I had to check to be sure both shoes were inside the box. Well, these shoes are the lightest shoes I have ever owned. I guess if I were a competitive runner, I would want my shoes to be lightweight. In fact, after weeks of wearing this shoe, I’ve concluded that my Nike Run Swift shoes are the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. The next day, I wore a regular white athletic sock, which made the fit more comfortable. Unfortunately, the thick socks I was wearing did bunch up a little bit. I think if I had bought a larger or wider size (I didn’t see any E or wide sizes), it would have not felt as good. It was almost as if these shoes conformed to my feet almost perfectly. The initial snugness I felt had disappeared. It was a feeling unlike any shoe I had worn before. The soles seemed to propel me forward as I walked. The soles propelled me forwardĪfter I had both shoes on my feet, I took a few steps. I was thinking that maybe I should have bought a larger or wider size (10 M). A little snugĪs I slipped them on, I had to loosen the laces a little. Since I didn’t try my new shoes on at the store, you can imagine how anxious I was to see how they actually felt on my feet. However, as far as looks go, Nike’s Run Swift looks the best! Plus, I have other Nike sneakers, including the ultra-comfortable and durable Monarch Air. Most comfortable shoe I haveīecause I liked how the Nike Run Swifts looked so much, I didn’t even bother trying them on in the store. At that point, my only concern was how they’d feel on my feet. So, I cashed in some of my rewards at DSW and became a proud owner. The only reason I bought my Nike Run Swift shoes was because I loved how they looked on the shelf. My observations are unscientific, while being honest reflections of my experiences Other than my DSW rewards, I paid the normal retail price for these shoes. ![]() I received no gifts to compensate for my review. ![]() ![]() ![]() The government wanted Apple to create a version of iOS with a built-in backdoor so that agents could gain access to the device’s data. The Secure Boot credential leak arrives after Apple’s conflict with the FBI over the iPhone 5c used by one of the San Bernardino shooters in December of 2015. A third patch is expected to be released soon. A patch arrived in July but didn’t totally resolve the issue, thus Microsoft launched another patch in August. Microsoft seemed reluctant to fix the issue at first, but finally awarded them a bug bounty in June. Now, what happens if you tell everyone to make a ‘secure golden key’ system? Hopefully you can add 2+2.”Īccording to a disclosure timeline, the researchers discovered the initial policy and reported the problem to Microsoft between March and April of this year. And the golden keys got released from MS own stupidity. “You seriously don’t understand still? Microsoft implemented a ‘secure golden key’ system. “About the FBI: are you reading this? If you are, then this is a perfect real world example about why your idea of backdooring cryptosystems with a ‘secure golden key’ is very bad! Smarter people than me have been telling this to you for so long, it seems you have your fingers in your ears,” the researchers write. This of course heats up the controversy surrounding backdoors in operating systems. With this tool now out in the wild, Microsoft devices like the Surface 3 and Surface Book could be even more open to nasty attacks by hackers. Thus, the leaked tool does not include a DeviceID element, nor does it have any rules pertaining to on-disk Boot Configuration Data, enabling anyone to test-sign software not signed by Microsoft. The “golden key” in question disables the operating system signature check so that Microsoft’s own developers can test new builds without having to officially sign each one. These tools are merely sets of rules that load up during the boot process, enabling IT administrators to make changes to their Microsoft-based hardware, for developers to test drivers, and so on. However, Microsoft created tools (aka policies) for altering the Secure Boot system. That said, Secure Boot cannot be disabled on Microsoft devices by consumers. Thus, this number is associated with the installed operating system. Secure Boot relies on a DeviceID element, meaning each device has its own unique number. In addition to preventing piracy, Secure Boot also stops malware in its tracks when it tries to modify the system firmware, or install rootkits that load up before or during the OS loading process. ![]() Because of this, only an operating system cryptographically signed by Microsoft can load. Secure Boot works at the firmware level, and essentially makes sure that the bootloader and other components are cryptographically signed and allowed to run on the current hardware. Microsoft introduced Secure Boot with the launch of Windows 8 back in October of 2012. This security feature prevents the installation of non-genuine Windows-based operating systems and other non-Microsoft platforms, such as Linux. It’s a “golden key” of sorts that will enable anyone to bypass Microsoft’s Secure Boot provision. Whoops! Two researchers discovered earlier this year that Microsoft accidentally included an internal debugging tool, or policy, on Surface hardware shipped to customers. ![]() ![]() Dream Chronicles The Chosen Child Deluxe v1 0 0 104 M3RC (66. To cut the layers I have used the Laser Spirit GE 100W at the Ateneu de Fabricació de Les Corts, one of the three public fablabs in Barcelona: Xarxa d'Ateneus de Fabricació de Barcelona. MDF again with holes for the power connector and button.MDF hollow layers to allow room for the electronics.LED matrix frame in MDF for the 8x8 version.the LED isolator grid, laser cut in MDF.a smoke colored acrylic layer cut with a laser cutter. The end result is a layered, “sliced”, box with room for the LED matrix and the electronics. The only drawback is that you waste a lot of wood but luckily you can fit 4 layers of the smaller version inside the hollow layers of the 16x16 version since they are smaller than half the length/width (half the LEDs in each direction and smaller pitch). I love the color of MDF after a session of laser cut!Īnd to close the box I designed simple hollow layers inspired (again) on the Pibow cases by Pimoroni. 5mm thickness are enough to allow the light to cover the entire 9x9mm square and it looks nicer (better finished), easier to build because I'd be already using a laser cut for the rest of the pieces and much cheaper: a few cents versus a few euros for the 3D printed part, only in material. So I tried to laser cut it on a 5mm MDF board and the result is much better. On the other hand I wanted to get rid of the 3D printed part, the grid that serves as an isolator between LEDs. So I started thinking about a case for the electronics to prevent them from gathering dust. The only issue someone reported was that it has an open enclosure (that sounds like an oxymoron). “You should be selling it” was a common advice. People at the Mini Maker Faire in Barcelona last year loved it for the display effects and the overall built. My wordclock project had some very good reviews. You can check the bill of materials at the README page in the repo for the rest of components. Not the same board but the same Eagle part, the black one from SeeedStudio is slightly shifted towards the top left corner in the picture. The only small glitch I noticed is a small (0.3mm) shift on the silkscreen. I like the fact that you are not limited to the green color for the cheapest price tag: green, blue, red, yellow, black, white, they all cost the same and for a standard board under 10x10cm and 2 layers the price starts at USD 4.90 (USD 12.90 lead free) for 10 pieces!! Quality of the PCB is really good and price/quality ratio is hard to beat. It is the first time I use their PCB service but I have already sent a couple more projects to them, including a PCBA service and I plan to do a review about it soon. I sent the gerblers to fab using SeeedStudio Fusion PCB service. You can use the latest gerblers from the repository or open the project using Eagle +8.0. This allows for a smaller version so I decided to design a PCB with the same features but a 50x50mm size. The 8x8 ones are also available for 7-9€ at Ebay and Aliexpress and have a smaller pitch (8mm versus 10mm for the 16x16 RGB LED matrices). ![]() The 16x16 I was using are the flexible type you can find on Ebay or Aliexpress for about 40-50€. They are much cheaper and almost the same fun. One of the goals was to be able to create smaller displays using 8x8 LED matrices instead of the original 16x16. Fix some issues with the original board (like the lack of a beefy capacitor across the LED matrix power lines).Completely closed enclosure, better presentation.Replace the 3D printed part with a wooden grid cut in laser.Replace the ATMega328P with an ESP8266 (NTP support and user interaction).I have done some myself, including a fibonacci clock, a wordclock with a fancy green matrix effect and an unreleased project that hopefully will see the light someday soon.īut recently I came back to the idea behind the wordclock before, to extend it in different ways: Every modern maker has a clock amongst her first projects. The bottom line is that at some time, one or more of the timing chain system components will become worn to the point that they are no longer performing within specifications. There are also guide rails that keep the chain on the proper path that can become worn. This keeps the chain tight while allowing it to absorb pulsations from the engine. There is also a tensioner that keeps appropriate pressure on the timing chain. When timing is off enough, your engine won’t run at all and could even be severely damaged. When timing is off a little your engine will not run as smoothly. A broken tooth on a sprocket can cause the chain to slip a little. If your vehicle has a timing chain, there may not be a specified schedule for replacing it, but that doesn’t mean that the timing chain system is indestructible and never needs attention.įor example, the chain runs on sprockets on the crankshaft and the camshafts. If your vehicle has a timing belt, your vehicle’s owner’s manual has a schedule for replacing the belt. Timing chains are made of metal and last for a very long time as well. Timing belts are made of a very tough compound that can last for a long time. ![]() It is the job of the timing belt or timing chain to make sure all of this is synced up properly. Then the exhaust valves open to release the exhaust. They remain closed while the air and fuel is compressed and ignited, powering the piston. As your engine runs, the intake valves need to open up to allow air into the engine. ![]() ![]() Functional programming has historically been less popular than imperative programming, but many functional languages are seeing use today in industry and education, including Common Lisp, Scheme, Clojure, Wolfram Language, Racket, Erlang, Elixir, OCaml, Haskell, and F#. įunctional programming has its roots in academia, evolving from the lambda calculus, a formal system of computation based only on functions. Proponents of purely functional programming claim that by restricting side effects, programs can have fewer bugs, be easier to debug and test, and be more suited to formal verification. This is in contrast with impure procedures, common in imperative programming, which can have side effects (such as modifying the program's state or taking input from a user). When a pure function is called with some given arguments, it will always return the same result, and cannot be affected by any mutable state or other side effects. This allows programs to be written in a declarative and composable style, where small functions are combined in a modular manner.įunctional programming is sometimes treated as synonymous with purely functional programming, a subset of functional programming which treats all functions as deterministic mathematical functions, or pure functions. In functional programming, functions are treated as first-class citizens, meaning that they can be bound to names (including local identifiers), passed as arguments, and returned from other functions, just as any other data type can. ![]() It is a declarative programming paradigm in which function definitions are trees of expressions that map values to other values, rather than a sequence of imperative statements which update the running state of the program. In computer science, functional programming is a programming paradigm where programs are constructed by applying and composing functions. Gluons can not only be exchanged between the individual gluons within a proton or neutron, but in combinations between protons and neutrons, leading to nuclear binding. Individual protons and neutrons may be colorless entities, but the quarks within them are colored. Even the strong nuclear force, which binds atomic nuclei together, is identical forward and backward in time.Electromagnetic interactions behave identically forward and backward in time.Gravitational interactions work the same forward and backward.A purely inelastic collision, where two objects smash into each other and stick together, is exactly the same as a purely inelastic explosion in reverse, where the energy absorbed or released by the materials is identical.A purely elastic collision, like two billiard balls colliding, would behave exactly the same if your ran the clock forward and backward, right down to the speed and angle that the balls will go off at.There are many examples where one phenomenon, if you run the clock forward, corresponds to an equally valid phenomenon if you run the clock backward. Put simply, it says that the laws of physics obey the same rules whether you run the clock forward or backward. One of the most important symmetries in all of physics is known as time-reversal symmetry. ( Credit: MichaelMaggs Edit by Richard Bartz/Wikimedia Commons) While Newton’s laws of motion are the same whether you run the clock forward or backward in time, not all of the rules of physics behave identically if you run the clock forward or backward, indicating a violation of time-reversal (T) symmetry where it occurs. What happens, then, if we put these speculations together?Ī ball in mid-bounce has its past and future trajectories determined by the laws of physics, but time will only flow into the future for us. Still others have speculated that dark energy might evolve over time, rather than being a constant, leaving the door open to the possibility that it might someday counteract and reverse our Universe’s expansion. Many have speculated - although there is no proof - that the arrow of thermodynamics and the arrow of time may be related. And everywhere we look, the entropy of the Universe always goes up.Īs the story of our cosmic evolution continues, we think all of these things will continue: the laws of physics will still apply just as they do today, dark energy’s presence ensures that the Universe will keep on expanding, and entropy will keep increasing, as dictated by the laws of thermodynamics. They change their motion due to the effects of gravity and the other forces. ![]() ![]() Objects move through the Universe proportional to their velocity. Still, if we look for it, we can find that a number of things also happen to always move in the same direction, from moment-to-moment, exactly the way time does. And yet, it isn’t particularly clear exactly why this is the case. Each successive instant gives way to the next, with time continuously appearing to flow in the same direction - forward - without fail.
